Ski Dazzle takes over La La Land

With fall come a series of ski trade shows. LA, SF, Chi -Town, Sac, San Jo you name it and I'm sure there's a ski show coming to a town near you. And now it's finally over. Ali B and I flew down to La La land over Halloween weekend. I will let the pictures tell our story.

Ali dressed up as daisy duck on Halloween. Ali with some kids from Mtn High.

His shirt says why he's still single.

Only the best bfast spot in downtown LA! A legend. I'm pretty sure the Freeskier kids hit up this spot every morning around 2 am

Happy Halloween

This year for Halloween I was in LA for the Ski Dazzle Trade show... but I was able to hang out down south for a few days. Pumpkins were carved check them out...

Humboldt County

Back in September Nick and I took a quick trip to Humboldt County to visit some of his friends and see the sights. From Tahoe it wasn't an easy trip. It was about 9/10 hours total in driving time.
Never having visited the Northern California Coast North of San Francisco it sounded like a great mini vaca. Our first day, we grabbed some amazing fish tacos and headed to the beach. It was a beautiful day topping at about 70 degrees. After relaxing at the beach we then helped out with some gardening, made a feast, drank some local brews and called it a night.

Along the coast.

The next day after checking out Crescent City, an old fishing town, we headed out to the Smith River . The Smith River is the 4th cleanest river in the world. Chilly, but clean. Looking down from the cliff ready to jump right in you could see the bottom. Truly amazing.

Roxy, Nick and Me in front of a giant Redwood

The day we headed out we drove down the coast towards Avenue of the Giants, so we could check out some amazing Redwoods. The Avenue is surrounded by the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, which holds the largest remaining stand of virgin redwoods in the world, covering more than 17,000 acres. The oldest recorded coast redwood--more than 2,200 years old--was found in the park. They've been around for more than 150 million years and can only be found on a narrow belt about 40 miles wide and 450 miles long, stretching along the coasts of Oregon and northern California. In 1918 the Founders Tree and Grove were established by Save the Redwoods League to help prevent further destructions of the coast of redwoods. The Rewoods are a site to see.

346 ft tall and growing...

See how tiny my head is compared to the Founders tree? Crazy...

Fall into Fall

  • Tuesday morning safety meeting topic, winterizing your house
  • Piles of wood around my house and most of my neighbors yards
  • 35 degree temps in the morning
  • Beanies
  • Comfort food
  • Football
  • Oktoberfest
  • Planning out Holiday vacation time
  • Telling myself I need to get in shape for Snowboarding

In lieu of it being the first day of fall I’m going to drink my coffee and not worry about all these things until next week.

Things I’m looking forward to in the months ahead.
  • Trip to the Pacific Coast - Redwood National Park
  • Oktoberfest
  • Pumpkin craving
  • First snow fall
  • Mammoth
  • Harvesting Apples
  • Fires and peppermint patties
  • Snowboarding
  • Numerous trips to the Bay

Winter is always fun in Tahoe. Friends come back from where ever they were for the last 6 months (New Zealand, Europe, South America…you name it). Snowboarding, Snowboarding, Snowboarding… and this year we have snow removal!!! Yaay I don’t have to touch the driveway only the deck and that’s super easy and fast… Thank you Nick!

Last Days of Summer...

Labor Day has always marked the last days of summer. For a mountain girl it means fall is just weeks away and winter is only a month or two behind. It also means it's time to collect wood, winterize your house, dust off your skis and boards and remembering where you put those gloves - - Oh and seaosn pass; possibly even taking a new picture! In true fashion this mountain girl turned to her San Diegan roots and headed south to the Beach, Carlsbad that is.

In honor of the weekend and the Swine Flu we ended the summer right, roasting a 100 lb pig, named Petunia. There was beach volleyball, horseshoes and even a beer pong tourney on the infamous Cherry Street. I was merely a spectator this weekend.Oh course the "Swine Fest '09 - 2" was hosted by the Cherry Ave Clan.

It will be interesting to see how they top this summer next year......

The Chief and his pig "Petunia."

Jesse started roasting the pig at 6 a.m. and it was ready to feast by 5 p.m.

hanging out drinking beers

Giants vs. Rockies

Sunday, August 30th I had the opportunity to check out a Giants game from a luxury box. The Giants were playing the Rockies and this wasn't any old game, it was a very important game. If the Giants won it would tie them up with the Rockies for the wild card to the playoffs. Needless to say everyone was on the edge of there seat in the 7th inning when the Giants were down 5-2 with the bases loaded and 0 outs when a grand slam was hit to put them in the lead. The Giants ended up winning 9-5! Thanks to Heavenly's Media Event I was able to see my first game at the AT&T Ballpark and to top it off from a luxury box.

The spread in the luxery suite!

View of the Bay Bridge from the Suite.

Giants up to bat down 5-2 mintues more like seconds later there was a Grand Slam!

Lake in the Sky Air Show - South Lake Tahoe

Saturday, August 29th was South Shore's Air Show. I represented Heavenly's booth and made sure everyone had all the info they needed. Even though I can't name all the planes I saw or even the ones pictured below there where tons of cool private planes and military planes to be seen. A C-17 even landed at the show. It wasn't just all about planes, the show consisted of a chili cook off, skydive demo, medical evacuation demo, and various plane demos in the sky. It was fun for all ages.

Me at our table.

Check out some of the planes:

Dog Days of Summer

Some how I managed to keep my plant alive for the past year. It wasn't just any plant it was a fern! I found it difficult to keep it alive as it was touch and go for awhile during the winter. With my plant still alive this meant Nick would let me get a dog. Yes I'm a grown woman, but this was our compromise. With that being said, Saturday Roxy the German Shorthair Pointer became the newest addition to 1129 Carson. She's a lover!

She quickly learned where her food & water dish were, where her bed & toys were and where to potty. She seems to be a smart little pup so far. She already heads to the door when she needs to potty. Yeah and she's only 8 weeks old imagine that!

Next thing to tackle...the crate!

Roxy at her finest

Within the hour she learned where her food bowl was.

She loves the pheasant

Yay a puppy...

On August 15th I will be bringing home a German Shorthaired Pointer. Stay tune for stories about raising a pup...
Here she is already sniffing out a trail.

Lake of the Sky Fest ' 09

Saturday marked the Third Annual Lake of the Sky Festival. Filled with great bands, arts and crafts, Eco messaging, and beer from Tallac Brewing Co. Oh yeah and tons of hippies. I had no idea it was going on until a friend called me up and asked if i wanted to grab a beer and listen to some good music, of course I was in. Since we are all about riding bikes, every one met at my house in the sierra tract and our bike posse was off to the Tallac Brewing Co.

First things first- - beer. We had two options blonde or amber and with no questions asked we all went for the blonde with a 8% alcohol content.
