Friday's Fancies::Pretty in Plaid

With the temps dropping it's time to start layering. There's nothing I love more than a cozy sweater during winter, especially in Tahoe. Paired with a scarf, sorels and skinny jeans you're looking at my go-to winter outfit. I'm known to rock a puffy vest from time to time too.  Don't you love the touch of color the plaid scarf brings to the table. Just the type of pop I like!

This weekend we're wrapping up winter house chores, like painting the new siding and adding a weather seal to the kitchen door. Good times! I'm looking forward to ending the weekend by a cozy fire and glass of wine.

Tahoe Treetop Adventure Park

This weekend was a blast! Friday night my friend Erin and I headed up to Granlibakken Conference Center & Lodge for Women's Wellness Weekend. Besides learning about fueling our body and keeping our skin healthy we climbed and zipped through the trees!

Granlibakken is home to the first Aerial Adventure Park in California. The Treetop Adventure Park is comprised of a series and variety of courses linking tree platform to tree platform with a number of bridges and zip lines anywhere from 15 to 50 feet in the air! We laughed and cheered each other on the entire time.

Our adventure was schedule for 1 p.m. and upon arrival we quickly made our way to the yurt to check in and sign waivers.

There are two different zones of courses to enjoy, Monkey or Flying Squirrel. The Flying Squirrel zone consists of three difference courses for beginners and younger kids. While the Monkey zone offers five courses for all abilities (Older Kids, Adult Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced Zone).

What do you think? Monkey or Flying squirrel? It was all Monkey business...

Once we were outfitted with a harness and helmet we headed to ground school. Safety first! At ground school a guide taught adventure seekers the how to's. There was even a mini zip-line to test our skills.

Each course is rated by difficultly from green to black -- like skiing. The Monkey zone has one green, three blue and one black course.

Some obstacles were harder than others.

We conquered all five courses in the Monkey zone.

It took us about two hours and 15 minutes to complete them.

The best part was zipping through the forest after challenging your mind and body. I had to talk myself across some of the obstacles.

Like these rings -- they weren't my favorite.

This is a must while in Tahoe and it's not just for kids. I can't thank Granlibakken or the Treetop Adventure Park enough for hosting us. Reservations are a must and spots go quickly. The park is open year round weather permitting.

Tips: I wore sunglasses, but didn't really need them. It's a pretty shaded area so depending on the time of year you'll want to wear pants and a fleece.

Paleo Protein Smoothie

Every morning I head to the gym at 5:30 a.m. -- yes you read that correctly. Then two nights a week I head back to the gym for some personal training with two friends. Yes, I workout seven times a week. That doesn't include hiking or biking, walking the dog or any other weekend activity I enjoy. Call me crazy. With that said I try to fuel my body with good for you meals.

My morning workout is always followed by a smoothie. Each morning the smoothie is slightly different. Since I like to experiment with veggies and fruits sometimes it turns out delicious other times not so much.

This morning was a winner!

You may be thinking this green smoothie is not for me. Well you should give it a try before you knock it.

Green Paleo Protein Smoothie
2 servings

Ingredients
 2 cups spinach (I buy fresh spinach then freeze it)
1 banana
1 1/2 -2 cups original almond milk (unsweetened also works)
1-2 tablespoons agave nectar (honey works too)
cinnamon (just give it a few shakes)
2 tablespoons vanilla hemp protein
2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
2 cups frozen mixed fruits (I used a strawberry, peach and mango medley)

Directions
Place everything in the blender in the order listed above. Blend until desired consistency. If you like your smoothies thicker then only use 1 1/2 cups of almond milk.

Enjoy!

Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale Picks

It's no secret I love Nordstrom just as much as the next girl. What's even better for this girl living in the woods, free shipping both directions! The icing on the cake is the half-yearly sale!

It can be a bit overwhelming scrolling through all the sale items. You're probably wondering where to start? This time around I searched for items I knew were missing from my closet. Below are a few pieces I would like to add to my wardrobe this season. Happy shopping!

 Free People 'Cross My Heart' High/Low Sweater $70.80 {from $118}

It's cozy and perfect for layering. Pair it with skinny jeans or leggings, tall boots and a scarf.

Børn 'Zelia' Boot $119.90 {from $174.95}

I'm in love with the military inspired boots this season. Think skinny jeans or even a dress.

Michael Kors 'Preston' Chronograph Bracelet Watch $176.98 {from $295}

I've been lusting over a Michael Kors watch for a while now. This is the perfect time to purchase one!

MARC BY MARC JACOB 'Reluctant Stars - Wingman' Phone Wallet $43.98 {from $88}

Sometimes all you want to carry is a wallet. But what about your phone? This little guy takes care of that without being super bulky. I also love this one.

kensie Contrast Trim Floral Fit & Flare Dress $59.40 {from $99}

I adore this printed little dress... it's perfect for a Christmas party or day at the office paired with a fitted black blazer, tights and boots!

Enzo Angiolini 'Ellerby' Boot
Enzo Angiolini 'Ellerby' Boot $149.90 {from $224.95}

This last piece would fill a major hole in my closet. See I donated my brown boots before replacing them. What was I thinking?

How much do you love the half-yearly sale? Buy anything? Do tell.
