Five on Friday

Happy Friday and three day weekend! I'm looking forward to celebrating my birthday tomorrow, some beach time and Tahoe in general. How are you spending Memorial Weekend? Before the festivities began I'll leave you with some randomness.

one.
Friends + River floats. I mentioned our weekend adventure group on Monday. Here's the group photo we managed to snap!

two.
Pura Vida Bracelets. I'm in love with wrap style bracelets right now. Every bracelet purchased helps provide full-time jobs for local artisans in Costa Rica.

three.
Orange is the New Black starts June 6! I can't wait.

four.
TOMS turned 8 and they're offering $10 off any $50 purchase. I'm thinking about these.

five.
Homemade ice cream! A few weeks ago I made green tea ice cream and blueberry maple cinnamon ice cream. The flavors are endless! I'm thinking about staying traditional and testing out vanilla or coffee flavored next. Do you make your own ice cream?

Organic Strawberries + Whole Foods Market

{Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post brought to you by Northern California's Whole Foods Market}

It's strawberry season and our local Whole Foods Market is now carrying delicious fresh organic strawberries! They're even grown right here in California at Swanton Berry Farm (Davenport, CA) and Well Pict (Watsonville, CA)

I love all things berry -- blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and of course strawberries! We actually have strawberries and raspberries growing in our garden. Did you know that strawberries are one of the dirty dozen? So it's best to buy organic when purchasing. I'm craving a bowl right now!

There are so many ways to enjoy strawberries this season, but I can't wait to try strawberries & coconut water, strawberry cheesecake muffins, strawberry basil sangria or strawberry mango salsa! Oh, I could go on and on about all the delicious recipes I want to try, but that will have to wait for another day.

Did you know there are tons of health benefits associated with eating strawberries? A single serving of strawberries has approximately 150% of your daily requirement of Vitamin C! This super food has also been linked to help with brain function, high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, cancer and tumor growth.

Who's ready for a bowl of strawberries?!

Whole Foods Market also partnered with Chef Hollie Greene of JoyFoodly.com. She's sharing some tasty seasonal recipes. Lucky you I tested out her Dreamy Creamy Strawberry Whipped Fools and am sharing it below.

Dreamy Creamy Strawberry Whipped Fools
via Whole Foods Market & JOYFOODLY

Ingredients

12oz. fresh strawberries
3 tbsp fresh orange juice
3/4 cup heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp powdered sugar

Directions

Dice strawberries by first slicing them down the middle, then cutting strips and dicing the strips. Place in a medium sized bowl. Zest orange and place zest on top of diced strawberries. Add fresh orange juice to strawberries.

With a fork, mash the strawberries until most are smashed but some pieces are left whole. Set aside.

Place the heavy cream, vanilla and sugar into a bowl and whip until the cream forms stiff peaks.

In the bowl with strawberries, gently fold 1/3 of the whipped cream into the strawberries. Refrigerate until you are ready to enjoy.

Gear Crush: Columbia Sportswear

Gear Crush: Columbia

Over the last few years I've started converting friends to Columbia. It all started with omni-heat. One friend, then two and before I knew a number were hooked. After omni-heat came omni-freeze and water shoes. Now it's all about Columbia. Did you know they've been trying stuff since 1938.

There are a number of must have items for summer, but I narrowed them down to just a few.

It's amazing! You need to but one today. I only own one, but I plan to buy another soon. I've sweat my little heart out in this tank from spin to crossfit and I've never felt soaked in sweat although I was. That's the omni-wick and omni-freeze hard at work. MSRP: $50

Living in Lake Tahoe I spend a good amount of time exploring the great outdoors. Shoes can make or break any adventure and water shoes are key. I'm not talking about the water socks you wore as a kid (ok, maybe that was just me). I'm talking about rugged water shoes that you can hike, run, kayak or paddleboard in. They are worth every penny. MSRP: $85

I've traveled my fair share over the years and there's one thing that's consistent, functional and fashionable dresses. I may not own this particular dress, but I could picture myself rocking it in Tahoe, Mexico or San Diego. It's prefect for grabbing drinks at the local Catina or post paddling/ hiking adventures. MSRP: $55

Everyone needs a vacation hat and this is the one. MSRP: $15

Sometimes you just need a lightweight shirt over a tank or bikini. I actually could have used this shirt kayaking on Saturday. It was a bit breezy towards the end of our trip.  Best feature --  roll-up sleeves that fasten to become three-quarter length.  I like options! MRSP: $45

Birthday Wish List

Birthday Wish List

The three day weekend is just days away. Can you guess the best part about it? Saturday is my birthday! The days of going out all night are long gone. I'm looking forward to spending it with friends. There will be plenty of beach, bocce, beer and bbqing.

It's hard to believe, but I really had a hard time putting together a birthday list. The only thing I really want is my kitchen to be remodeled. Which is going down in August, but  would love for it to be done. Sign, sealed and delivered.

Until then my birthday wish list is completely random, but are all things I'm currently eying.

 I love sundresses during the summer and clearly I don't have enough.{Size Medium}

With all the working out I do I've come to realize that I need new workout clothes. These would make a nice addition. {Size Medium}

It's time for new running shoes too. I've even considered buying multiple pairs since I've been logging so many miles. {Size 7}
I'm a huge fan of TOMS, but I thought I should expand. A pair of Espadrilles would be perfect for summer in Tahoe. {Size 6 1/2}
Classic, clean and me to a T. It's time these bad boys were mine.
Yup, we're still eating Paleo.
Kate Spade is having a killer 75% sale right now. There are so many things I want, but the little pouch and studs would make this girl happy as can be.

Weekend Happenings Lake Tahoe Style

Happy Monday!

It was an action packed weekend full of birthdays, kayaking, delicious treats and friends.

We kicked off summer Saturday by floating the Upper Truckee River for a friends birthday. Our crew was nearly 30 people deep. Wonder what that looks like...

Curiosity of my friend Michelle!

Me and my girl cruising down the river in our pink kayak.

Via my girlfriend Danae!
Maxing and relaxing on river. I busted out my Columbia powerdrain shoes and they never disappoint. Best water shoes ever! (Legs for Days)

With the birthday girl before setting off.

The views in Tahoe just never get old. I'm lucky enough to call this home!

After floating for a few hours we headed over to another friends house to celebrate her 30th Birthday! Man we're getting old. I made some unreal Blueberry Maple Cinnamon ice cream.

Needless to say I crashed hard Saturday night. Sunday was a bit more mellow. After sleeping in till 7:30 a.m. (yes, you read that correctly) I headed to Reno. I won't bore you with errand details, but I did swing by the local Whole Foods for some tasty treats! Lucky me Northern California's Whole Foods Market hooked it up. Details coming soon! But I'm currently growing alfalfa sprouts!

The hubby and I wrapped up the weekend with a quick run to the nursery. Our garden is looking good. Well in the front yard at least.

Green Tea Ice Cream

I love ice cream. I know it's hard to believe, right? Saturday I was feeling like a tasty treat so I figured why not make some ice cream. Plus, it was time to break in my kitchen aid ice cream attachment. I made a delicious paleo green tea ice cream. It turned out fantastic. I even topped it with some dark chocolate. It's light and perfect for any warm summer day.

Green Tea Ice Cream
via Candice Kumai & Shape Magazine

Ingredients

14 oz can light coconut milk (I use the Trader Joe's brand. Use full fat to make it a bit creamier)
2 tsp matcha green tea powder (Add 1 more tsp for stronger flavor)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
2 tbsp sugar

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a blender (I use the Vitamix 300) and mix until smooth. Transfer ice cream mixture to a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Place in the freezer and chill until cold, at least 30 minutes.

Using your ice cream maker, process the chilled ice cream mixture about 20 minutes. (I use the Kitchen Aid stand mixer attachment)

Place the ice cream into an air tight container. Freeze until firm, at least 30-45 minutes.

To serve, leave out on the counter for 30 minutes until it soft enough to scoop.

Five on Friday

one.
I'm seriously a fitness junkie. As of this morning I've logged seven workouts since Monday! I also joined Crossfit two weeks ago. I'm in love.

two.
Wrap bracelets. Love them. I just ordered one from Victoria Emerson and I want to buy more. Hurry they're currently on sale! $24-29 plus free shipping with code: ship4free

three.
Running shoes. I love color so naturally when I purchased a new pair of workout shoes they had to be bright. I bought these, but sadly had to send them back as they were too narrow.

four.
Fitbit. I've been rocking it pretty regularly. Honestly I'm on the fence about it. I really don't have a problem taking 10,000 steps a day. However, I like that it tracks my sleep. Apparently I don't get as much sleep as I thought.

five.
Dream Kitchen. August is when it's all going down, but since January I've been entering Wellborn's dream kitchen contest daily. I'm hoping the stars will align and I'll be the lucky soul who wins their dream kitchen! There's 22 days left to enter.

Gear Crush: Patagonia

Gear Crush: Patagonia

Hello, my name is Tiara and I'm kind of a gear junkie. Take a look in my closet and you'll see. It's full of gear from The North Face, Columbia, Patagonia, and Merell. I do have random pieces like a pair of Keen sandals, Roxy hoodie and Timbuk2 gym bag. The point is it's bad, but I can't help it. I like good gear. I want a rain jacket I can pack down to nothing, or a bathing suit I can be active in.

Last week the Patagonia catalog showed up in my mail box. Honestly I wish I could buy everything. There were so many cute dresses. Anyway, I narrowed it down to a few items I would LOVE to buy this summer.

Reversible bikini. It's four swimsuits in one. What's not to love. This top and bottom set would be perfect for paddleboarding around Lake Tahoe this summer.

Twist dress. It's simple and perfect for running errands, brunch with the girls or as a beach cover up.

I live in shorts during the summer. The strider short is lightweight and breathable making it perfect for hiking, evening runs or cruising to the beach.

Everyone needs a comfy tee to throw on. I feel like the bear just screams me and Tahoe!

Mesh hat. I'm blonde and have blue eyes so I tend to cover my face as much as possible when exploring the great outdoors. I prefer a mesh baseball hat because it's breathable.

Flip flops. You don't even want to know how many pairs I own. You can take the girl from the beach, but you can't take the beach from the girl. These bad boys are Eco-friendly seeing that they are made from recycled materials. Saving the planet one sandal at a time.

What's you adventure style?

Tacos. Margaritas. Tequila.

Growing up in San Diego I enjoyed my fair share of Mexican food. It's safe to say it's one of my favorites. Tacos, burritos, tequila -- you name I've probably had it.

We're hosting a small fiesta at our house this weekend so I'm sharing a few things I can't wait to make!

one.
Salsa. It's a staple and this Strawberry Mango Salsa sounds so refreshing. I think this speaks for its self.

{via}

two.
Margaritas. A fiesta isn't complete without Margaritas. Honestly Yum added a twist, blood orange. I'm in love. Seriously, you need to make a pitcher this weekend!

{via}

three.
Tacos. Fish tacos are my go to, but every now and then I'll switch it up with chicken or pork. Don't forget about the sauce or toppings they can be a deal breaker.

{via}

four.
Tortillas. You need tortillas for your taco's right? Why not make them? It's easier than you think and friends and family will think you're a food wizard!

{via}

five.
Desert. I have a weird obsession with churros. I'm not kidding. For a while i couldn't leave Costco without one. I've now kicked that happen, but I still crave them (fat kid problems). Enter the cupcake. I'm giving these a test this weekend.
