Life After Baby | Living with a Happy Dog

This post is sponsored by Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network. I am being compensated for helping enrich the lives of senior dogs, but we only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND is not responsible for the content of this article.

Beyond the happiest baby in the world is our first baby girl, Roxy. Roxy, our seven year old german shorthaired pointer, wasn't too sure or happy about us adding a tiny human into the mix. At first life was chaotic, to say the least, but once we figured things out it was smooth sailing.  The key to staying sane is keeping everyone happy. Easier said than done, right?!

Three tips to living with a happy dog after baby.

Exercise
A well exercised dog is a happy dog. We try to walk Roxy an hour everyday, but when we can't we make sure to play fetch, tug-of-war, etc. Although she loves, loves the snow sometimes it's just hard to walk her daily during winter months.

Food + Treats
I'm a firm believer in feeding our dog quality food. A few months ago we switched to Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND and have noticed a big difference. Roxy welcomed the change of food, too!

Around age 7, the glucose metabolism in a dog’s brain begins to change, which can affect memory, learning, awareness or decision-making. As Roxy ages we want to make sure she's getting all the nutrients + vitamins she needs to stay bright and active.

Overall Benefits:
+ High-quality protein, including chicken as the 1st ingredient EPA, an omega-3 fatty acid
+ Glucosamine helps support joint health and mobility
+ Botanical oils provide an efficient fuel source for the brain in dogs age 7 and older - helping them think more like they did when they were younger.
+ Enhanced botanical oils can be used as additional energy source for the brain. When added to the daily diets of dogs 7+, the formula promoted memory, attention, and trainability.

Every morning Roxy gets a treat for sitting, laying dow, playing dead, etc. It's a fun way to engage her first thing in the morning.

Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ formulas contain enhanced botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs seven and older with visible results within 30 days. Purina Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+® is available at PetSmart and can help your senior dog!

Snuggles
Roxy loves her snuggles and she's not shy about asking for them. Although it took her awhile to warm up to Emerson, once she did it was game over. Throw a blanket on the floor and Roxy wants to lay on it too. She has no shame in her game. We make sure to give Roxy plenty of snuggles everyday.

Roxy is a part of the family and we wouldn't have it any other way. At this point she's not even phased by Emerson and lets her crawl on to the dog bed with her.

Roxy's one happy pup and Emerson loves her big sister!

  1. How sweet! It is important to take time for Roxy also. It can be hard to balance a new baby and a dog both needing attention! Great work, they both look very happy and well loved!

  2. Oh my gosh, what a sweet dog! I agree that it's important to keep them healthy and engaged as they grow older. We have a German Shepherd with stomach issues and I've heard Purina Pro Plan is good for sensitive digestion.

  3. I had 2 dogs when I got married and 3 years later we had a baby. My dogs were not treated any different and they were still looked at as part of the family from everyone in the family. My dogs adored their little sister and were the best babysitters.

  4. Hmm... I wonder if the age seven cutoff differs for small dogs and large dogs? Mr. N turned seven this year and he is still super spry.
