How to Prep for a Cookie Exchange

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #ShareTheHoliday #CollectiveBias

Can you believe tomorrow is December?! We're in full holiday mode at Casa de Meyer. The tree is trimmed, christmas cards have been ordered and holiday baking has started. This time of year is full of  parties ranging from cookie exchanges to work dinners.

I love the idea of a cookie exchange. It's a fun way to get the ladies together and exchange a few cookies and recipes. Typically when you're going to a cookie exchange you'll bring X dozen of cookies and take home the same. While 12 dozen cookies sound awesome that's way too much for me. I prefer a cookie exchange where everyone brings 1-2 dozen cookies and you leave with a few of each cookie. Make sense?

Anyway let's get down to business.

How to Prep for a Cookie Exchange [It's unbelievably simple.]

1. Determine what to make and how much
This year I'm making Chocolate Caramel Turtles! They're super easy to make ahead of time.

2. Determine how will you present your cookies
Personally I like using Rubbermaid TakeAlongs. They are the perfect vessel to house your delicious holiday meals/snacks when sharing them with friends/family and celebrating the season of giving.

Adding to the fun, Holiday TakeAlongs come in limited edition red, green and prints for the holidays and will be available in-store: 10/29 – 12/24

TakeAlongs product features:
➺ Quik Clik Seal™ keeps food secure and helps prevent spills.
➺ Soft lid grips the container tightly for a great seal, yet with a large tab opening is easy.
➺ Microwavable, top rack dishwasher and freezer safe.

3. Spread the joy
Now that your treats are made and you're ready to head out the door, spice up your Rubbermaid TakeAlongs by wrapping it with twine and a fun tag. These will also make fun gifts for your awesome neighbors.

Now if you're hosting a cookie exchange you'll have a whole different prep list. We'll save that for another day.

Ready to spice up your cookie exchange? Pick up Rubbermaid TakeAlongs the next time you're at Walmart. They're also perfect for all those Holiday leftovers.

What I Actually Bought on Black Friday

Yup, I went Black Friday shopping, but from the comfort of my coach! Instead of fighting the crowds we worked out, cut down a Christmas tree, snapped our Christmas photo and hung out at the house. All in all, it was a pretty relaxing day.

Oh and we started the  new Gilmore Girls four part series on Netflix!

Anyway here's what we scored during Black Friday! I'm sure they'll be on sale during Cyber Monday as well, YAY!

Mom Hack: Pumpkin Bread the Entire Family will Like

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #BakeHolidayGoodness #CollectiveBias

Thanksgiving is in 3 days! I can't hardly believe it. It also means we'll be hosting family in 3 days! Yup, my sister, brother and their significant others will be coming to Tahoe for a long weekend. Needless to say I started meal planning and cleaning last week. Over the weekend I made sure to stock up on all of out holiday needs.

Top priorities included stocking up on baking essentials like...

NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels -- These morsels give you the inspiration and products to express love through baking & baked goods.

NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk -- A pantry staple for more than 100 years. CARNATION® Milk products have been helping to make creamy, rich, treasured family favorites for generations. It’s the little difference that makes all the difference.

Libby’s® Pure Pumpkin -- because Thanksgiving only happen once a year!

Pumpkin Bread the Entire Family will Like

I even went as far as food prepping! Nothing crazy, but I made a few slice and bake cookies! Hey I wanted to test out the NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Pumpkin Spice Refrigerated Cookie Dough before guest arrived! Normally I love making cookies from scratch, but mama doesn't have time this week. Emerson even helped!

While using NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Pumpkin Spice Refrigerated Cookie Dough is a dirty little secret it's not really a mom hack, but they sure are good. I found them at Walmart!

Pumpkin Bread the Entire Family will Like

While the rest of the world goes crazy for Pumpkin Spiced latte I'm over here devouring pumpkin bread! Again, this is something I've always made from scratch, but like I said mama doesn't have time for that. Anyway, I'm sharing my pumpkin bread mom hack -- Libby’s® Pumpkin Bread Kit! For more than 80 years, LIBBY’s Pumpkin has been part of American baking tradition. Its natural goodness brings flavor, color and moistness to this bread.

Trust me, NO one will be able to tell the difference. This kit is magical. It makes 2 loaves, 72 muffins, etc. Plus, it easily customizable .... hence 'mom hack.' When work schedules and school activities keep everyone busy, but it's always good to have something delicious on hand.

Pumpkin Bread the Entire Family will Like

So how did I create pumpkin bread the entire family will like? Easy!

You'll need:
13x9 greased pan
1 Libby’s® Pumpkin Bread Kit!
4 eggs
1 cup water
1/2 vegetable oil [I prefer avocado oil]
1 cup NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
1 cup walnuts or pecans

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix all the ingredients and spread evenly in 13x9 pan. Bake per directions on box.

Cool and top with icing.

Enjoy!

Holiday Gift Guide for Him

Why are guys so hard to shop for? Every time a holiday rolls around I never know what to get the hubby. He's also not very good at dropping hints are letting me know. The last few years we actually went with a joint gift like a camera, new kitchen, vacation, etc. This year we'll probably do the same, but I thought it would be fun to pull together a gift guide for 'him.'

Nick's a simple guy and would be completely happy with any fishing, snowboarding or golfing gear. If you're not shopping for him you might want to check out Holiday Gift Guide for Her or Toddler Gift Guide.

Books - Books make easy gifts or stocking stuffers. Think outside the box i.e., Cook Book, How To books, etc. Nick is eying this, this and this.

Slippers - These Sorel's are Nick's favorite slippers. This will be his third pair!

PJs - Like I said he's a simple and practical guy. Plus, who doesn't love a new pair of pajamas.

Phone - Let's face it every few years it's time for an upgrade so why not wish for a new phone.

Jacket - This tech jacket is perfect for fall, spring and even layering during winter months.

Tools - Weather your guy is handy or not guys need basic tools! If he's not handy buy him a 'How To' book to go with a drill or wrench set. Nick likes the Ryobi brand from Home Depot. It's affordable and gets the job done. He's looking at picking up a power washer.

Wallet - Nick actually put this on the this because he needs a new wallet. HA.

Bose Speaker - Perfect for the garage, workshop, back yard, or office.

What's on you guy's wish list?

Keeping Track of your Best Friend

Through my ambassadorship with FitApproach, I was given the opportunity to review Whistle GPS Pet Tracker. This post was sponsored by Whistle and Fit Approach. As always opinions 100% my own.

Ever wonder what your dog does while you're gone or how active they are? Sometimes I swear my dog lays in the sun all day. Although Roxy is 7+  she chases squirrels, birds and rabbits all day in our yard, but I still wonder. I mostly worry when someone else is watching her, because her nose can get the best of her.

We recently received a Whistle GPS Pet Tracker [MSRP: $99.95 currently on sale for $49.95] plus 3 months free service to test. I loved having the peace of mind knowing if Roxy got out while I was gone I would be able to quickly find her!

Features

Live GPS tracking -- GPS tracking allows you to locate your pet at any time. Make sure your pet is where they’re meant to be, and quickly find them if they’re not.

Text and email alerts Receive texts and push notifications when your pet leaves your custom Whistle zone, so you’ll know right away if they might be in danger.

Food & medication reminders Log meals and create medication reminders to help co-parents and caretakers stay on top of your pet's health and nutrition needs.

Monitor health trends Make sure your pet is getting the right amount of activity for their breed and age, and share valuable summaries with your vet as needed.

Let's just cut to the chase. Overall, if you have an escape artist I would highly recommend Whistle GPS Pet Tracker. It will save you the hassle [and embarrassment] of driving up and down your street calling your dog.

Pros:
- Texts alerts when the dog leaves the 'zone.'
- I can easily see how active she's been.
- Now that she's an old lady I can set up vitamin and/or medication reminders
- Peace of Mind --- PRICELESS

Cons:
- False alarm texts... I would receive texts saying Roxy was out of her zone even though she was on her bed. I chalk this up to mountain living.
- It's somewhat bulky on her collar
- I had to charge it every 3ish days -- This is just annoying.

So what will we do after our complementary service is up? I'll probably cancel the service and then activate it when we're out of town since it's only $9.95 a month -- it's totally worth it.

1 in 3 pets will get lost in their lifetime. Whistle GPS Pet Tracker helps make sure your pet always returns home safe. One part superpower, many parts reliable technology, Whistle helps you be the hero your pet thinks you are.

If you're interested in purchasing a Whistle GPS Pet Tracker use  CODE: WHISTLEFIT and receive $30 (through 11/23).

Preparing for Holiday Guests

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #Prep4Gathering #CollectiveBias

With the Thanksgiving season upon us, we are presented with all of the excitement, joy, and responsibility that comes with being a Hostess. Before the big day arrives, arm yourself with a sense of humor and the tools you need to handle anything the holiday throws at you.

Oh the pressure -- the pressure to have everything perfect. But let's face it, we put the pressure on ourselves and things don't need to be perfect. All that matters is that you're with the people you love, enjoying great food, and have a clean house. God, I love a clean house. I have a secret -- I hired a house cleaner. She comes every two weeks and it was the best decision EVER.

Anyway, since we're hosting Thanksgiving I'm sharing how I'm preparing for Holiday guests.

5 Tips: Preparing for Holiday Guests

1.  Clean a little bit everyday until company arrives
I've always found cleaning a little bit every day is way easier than one big clean. This way you're not running around stressing out before guests arrive. This time of year I prefer to use Pledge® 9.7oz Multisurface - Antibacterial. It cleans and disinfects at the same time #winning! Pledge® 9.7oz Multisurface - Antibacterial takes care of and protects the things you love. Like my new kitchen!

2. Keep extra cleaning supplies on hand
Hosting Thanksgiving means there will be a mess, so the key is to stock up before guests arrive. I keep things simple in the kitchen -- Pledge® 9.7oz Multisurface - Rainshower, Pledge® 9.7oz Multisurface - Antibacterial and Windex® 26oz Original Glass Cleaner.

Windex® is perfect for so many of the surfaces throughout the home including windows, mirrors, sealed granite and marble, glass shower doors, chrome bathroom fixtures, lucite, tile, plastic, vinyl, aluminum, and more!

3. Simple Coffee Station
Everyone loves coffee. I suggest sprucing up your 'coffee station' with festive decor and candle. I'm currently loving Glade® Apple Cinnamon 3.4oz Candles and your guests will too!

4. Create an inviting Guest Room
I can officially check our guest room off the house project list! New headboard, cozy sheets, blinds, ceiling fans and I even hung some photos!

5. Keep things simple
Take a deep breathe. If something doesn't get done, it's ok. I can guarantee that your guests are going to have a great time. Remember, all you need is good company and great food.

So, there you have it, a few simple and easy tips to help prepare you for holiday guests.

Are you hosting the holidays this year?

While you're at Home Depot picking up home supplies swing down the cleaning aisle for all your Pledge® and Glade® products.

The First Year: Cherish all the Little Things

This post was sponsored by WaterWipes as part of an Ambassador Program for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review.

We're quickly approaching two! I know I can't believe it either. Where has the time gone? With Emerson's birthday barely two months away it has me thinking about our first year at home, among other things.

I was lucky enough to spent 3[ish] months at home with Emerson before returning to work. Then I was fortunate enough to work from home a few days a week before deciding to become a independent contractor 100% of the time. But enough about me -- let's talk about my sweet baby girl.

As first time parents we learned something new everyday! Just when you thought you had a handle on something things changed. The key to surviving the first year is learning to roll with the changes and cherish all the little things.

This is one of my favorite photos from her first birthday. It's a little crazy how things have changed in nearly a year.  As we're approaching two her personality is quickly developing and it's full of sassy. She's become miss independent and we try to let her 'try' to do things on her own. I mean girlfriend walked at 10 months so it doesn't com to a big surprise.

One of our favorite products from the first year was WaterWipes a chemical free baby wipe that contains only two ingredients, 99.9% pure Irish water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. Our girl has sensitive skin and after making the switch we noticed a significant decrease in diaper rash.

WaterWipes are both durable and effective without containing any of the harmful chemicals that may be found in other baby wipes, providing a safer, natural option for your little one.

It's products like WaterWipes that I love sharing with new moms.

What's you favorite first year memory or product?

3 Simple Ways to Survive the Holidays

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #RestAndRenew #CollectiveBias

Hello is this thing on? I'm just checking because I'm talking about something really important today -- surviving the holidays. For some the holidays bring stress and when you're stressed it's easier to get sick. Maybe you have small children which kyou now how that goes. No one wants to be sick, especially when it comes to the holiday season.

3 Tips to Surviving the Holidays

Eat a healthy breakfast
Start the day with a healthy meal. If you don't have time to make eggs, etc. opt for a smoothie. Yes, you can drink smoothies during the winter.

Yesterday I kicked off my morning with a "banana booster." Blend together 1 cup unsweetened Almond Milk, 1 banana (frozen if you have it), 1/2 cup frozen pineapple, peaches or mango (or a combo of the three), 2 tbsp natural PB, 2 scoops youtheory® Maca Root and a cup of ice. Makes two smoothies! Enjoy.

Maca (commonly known as Peruvian Ginseng) is cultivated at high altitudes in the Andes Mountains of Peru. This root vegetable is historically used for nutritional and health purposes. Its many traditional uses include: food, energy, hormone balancing, sexual functioning, PMS relief and menopause relief.* Today, Maca is best known as a “superfood" and an "adaptogenic botanical” that is ideally suited for both men and women’s health.*

Points of Difference
- 100% Peruvian grown material
- Sustainably sourced
- Dairy free, soy free, no gluten ingredients

Label Claims
- Adaptogenic botanical
- Nutrient-dense superfood
- Traditionally used to boost energy, stamina and endurance*
- Supports reproductive health*
- Helps alleviate symptoms associated with PMS and menopause*

Exercise
Don't skip a workout. If you're visiting family go for a walk or drop in on another gym. That's the thing I love about Crossfit I can go anywhere and find other likeminded individuals. Our GYM current held a "Turkey Throwdown" competition to help promote staying active during the holidays.

Regular exercise helps control the holiday weight gain, combat long term health conditions and diseases, improves mood, boosts energy and promotes better sleep. Plus, exercising is fun especially when you get outdoors!

Sorry, but this was the best photo I could find of me from the event.
Sleep
Don't forget to sleep! The hubs has a hard time sleeping -- always has. Sometimes I'll find him on the couch in the morning. Anyway, for the last few weeks he's been taking youtheory® Sleep Nighttime Powder and about a week ago finally started sleeping soundly through the night. I personally have always slept like a rock ;)

youtheory® Sleep Nighttime Powder provides broad-spectrum support for occasional sleeplessness.*  This product promotes restorative sleep.

My Morning Routine with Community Coffee

Friends there's something about a routine I love. Maybe it's knowing what the next day brings or maybe I just crave structure in my life. I'm a catch 22 because I'm a go with the flow kind of gal, but then I live by routine and schedule. Come on I schedule my workouts!

Anyway -- with a little one I've had to learn to be a bit more flexible, especially in the morning. But there are some things I just can't skip. Like a big cup of coffee and a healthy breakfast.

top / watch / jeans

Two mornings a week I get up and head to the gym at 6 a.m. for spin class. After a solid sweat sesh I head home to a freshly brewed pot of coffee! I grab a cup and start breakfast. Around 7:30 a.m. Emerson wakes up. Which is perfect timing. Breakfast is ready to be served.

The two of us sit down and enjoy breakfast together. The hubs has to be at work at 7 a.m. during the week so he doesn't join in the fun until the weekend. Breakfast can be anything from eggs and avocado toast to paleo pancakes.

After breakfast is cleaned up I set Emerson up in the bathroom with a few toys and books so I can shower.

A quick shower is followed by me scrambling to get myself and Emerson ready for the day. Around 8ish I drop Emerson off at preschool [3 days a week] and then head home to work. Obvious work varies from day to day.

In a nut shell that's my morning routine. It's pretty simple, but it works for me. There's just something about starting the day with a workout and cup of coffee.

Now let's talk about coffee because I'm pretty serious about my coffee -- even though I need creamer. First I absolutely love my new OXO On Barista Brain 9 Cup Coffee Maker [c/o]! The microprocessor-controlled brew cycle replicates the pour-over method to produce SCAA-certified perfect coffee. There's also a freshness indicator making it easy to determine when the coffee was made.

Whether you’re entertaining guests, keeping up with the kids or simply looking to enjoy a smooth cup of joe or iced coffee is a must. Recently we've been using Community Coffee. Aside from Community Coffee being pretty good coffee, the company gives back in a big way. In my book that's a win, win. Why not purchase with a purpose?! Learn more about their giving back programs like Military Match and Cash for Schools HERE. Fun fact: the Military Match program just reached a new milestone – 4.2. million cups of Community® coffee shipped to active-duty military personnel around the world.

P.S. Their seasonal favors are OUT and I can't wait to give the Pumpkin Praline a try!

What does your morning routine look like?

A big thank you to Community Coffee for providing samples for the hubby and to test. All opinions are 100% my own. Thank you for supporting brands who help make this blog possible.

Books - Emerson LOVES books. A few on her list include What Do You Do With an Idea?Rosie Revere, Engineer and Who Lives Here?: A Lift-the-Flap Book.

Holiday Gift Guide for Her

Hello, Hello! Today's a new day -- go live your life.

As promised I'm rolling out gift guides earlier this year. YAY! I'm not sure about you, but I do 95% of my shopping online and early. I say shop early and often. It seems like the deals start earlier every year so why wait until black Friday for holiday shopping.

I'm at the age where if I want something bad enough I usually just buy it. This makes creating a wish list a bit difficult, but here are a few ideas I'm currently loving and your special lady might too. When in doubt go for something small and complement it with a gift card to her favorite store. Stay tune additional gift guides coming soon -- Foodie, Fitness Enthusiast, Toddler, For Him, stocking stuffers for the whole family, etc.

Sunglasses - Everyone can use a classic pair of sunglasses.

Water bottle - Just think ... fitness resolution.

'sailors knot' bangle - Personally I think this bangle would complement my new watch!

Cross body Bag - The perfect everyday cross body bag. Loving the brown, but it's also available in black.

Paleo Perfected: A Revolution in Eating Well with 150 Kitchen-Tested Recipes - I'm a health nut, if you didn't know, so this is right up my alley.

NanoCeramic Tapered Iron - For those looking to change up their look.

Ruched Faux Fur Throw - Who doesn't love a cozy blanket!

Fit and Healthy Through the Holidays

This post was sponsored by Nature Made® as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central.

The Holidays are upon us whether you're ready or not! I don't know about you, but I plan to hibernate for the next few months to avoid tasty treats, red cups, the flu and adult beverages -- said no one ever!  But seriously how does one say fit and healthy through the holiday season? Simple - healthy food, plenty of exercise, sleep and vitamins. I should note I'm not a doctor, nutritionist, trainer, etc. so use my advice at your own risk --- HAHA. However, Nature Made® is the #1 Pharmacist Recommended brand for many key dietary supplement categories*

Ok, now that I'm done wiping the tears from laughing so hard about 'using my advice at your own risk' let's break it down.

FOOD
Did you know the average american will gain 7-10 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas? I'm a firm believer that fit bodies are made in the kitchen. So, to simply put it, eat clean whole foods. Throw away the proceeded crap and sugar. Avoiding treats all together is near impossible, but try to limit yourself to only one 'treat' a week. Your backside will thank you in the spring.

Here's an example of how I eat -- green smoothie or egg scramble for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch, and salmon [or another protein], sweet potato and veggies for dinner. Make sure to drink plenty of water. Pro Holiday party tips: eat before you go. This way you know you're staying on track. Attending a dinner party? Bring a healthy side to share.

EXERCISE
Make it a priority this season. I schedule all my workouts in my calendar. This way I know I'm putting in some time to take care of myself. Shoot for at least one hour five days a week. Yes, five days! Again your backside will thank you in the spring. Exercise helps control the holiday weight gain, combat long term health conditions and diseases, improves mood, boosts energy and promotes better sleep. Plus, exercising is fun especially when you get outdoors! A short hike will do the mind and body good.

VITAMINS
Everyday I take a multi vitamin, vitamin C, fish oil, and vitamin D -- without fail. While these are the vitamins I like and need you'll want to find the right combo for you. Nature Made® has a variety of vitamins, minerals, and supplements (VMS) to help support nutritional gaps with your health goals in mind ranging from Digestive Support, Heart Health & Function, Energy Metabolism, Women’s Health and much more!†

Looking for a probiotic? Nature Made® Probiotics are only available at Walmart SuperCenter locations. Nature Made® Probiotics: Nature Made® Advanced Dual Action Probiotic has been clinically studied and provides dual support to both your small and large intestine for comprehensive coverage to help support digestive balance and healthy gut flora.†

When you're making your holiday shopping list don't forget the vitamins or supplements you're out of. I recently stocked up on vitamin C and fish oil while at Walmart. Walmart has everyday low prices on Nature Made® items, so it’s easy to stock up and save, there’s no need to wait for a sale.

Nature Made® vitamins and supplements: An easy, convenient way to help your body get the nutritional support it needs every day, whether it be to support bone health, immune health or energy metabolism (helping convert food into energy).†

SLEEP
Basically shoot for 7-8 hours a night. No excuses -- unless you just had a baby ;)

Join me this season on my  Facebook page where I'm posting my daily workout attire and inspiration. If you're interested I'm happy to post workouts as well.

Cheers to a happy and healthy Holiday season!
